Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs scored a pair of touchdowns in Sunday’s 45-24 win over the Cardinals and that pushed him ahead of a Lions legend for the most touchdowns before the age of 25 in NFL history.

Gibbs has scored 58 touchdowns, which is one more than Barry Sanders managed early in his time with Detroit. Gibbs can add to that lead over the rest of the season and he’ll be way ahead if he realizes another one of his goals.

After the game, Gibbs told reporters that he has his eye on LaDainian Tomlinson’s single-season record of 31 touchdowns.

“For sure, I’m trying to get that,” Gibbs said.

Gibbs has nine touchdowns through the first five weeks of the season and the Lions aren’t shying away from giving him the kind of workload he’ll need to break that record. He has a league-high 132 touches and the Lions will likely keep feeding him on a regular basis given what Gibbs has shown he’s able to do with the ball in his hands.
