Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown continued their hot starts to the season in Sunday’s win over the Jets and they’ve done something that no other teammates have done in more than 60 years.
Gibbs scored three touchdowns against the Jets to move to six on the season. St. Brown had multiple touchdowns in each of the first two games, but was limited to just one in the Lions’ 31-24 win.
According to the team, that makes them the first teammates to each have at least five touchdowns through the first three weeks of a season since 1962. Dallas Texans running back Abner Haynes and wide receiver Chris Burford pulled it off that year in the AFL.
The Texans went on to win the AFL title before moving to Kansas City to become the Chiefs the next year. The Lions wouldn’t mind copying half of that result this year.
