The Portland Trail Blazers are well under two months away from kicking off their 2026-27 NBA season. The Blazers raised many an eyebrow this summer when they acquired Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies, giving up wing Jerami Grant and other assets in the process.

Now, Morant has revealed what he is looking forward to most about beginning his new journey in Portland.

“Getting to play with new guys and being able to touch the floor again,” he said, per the Blazers' official team account on X, formerly Twitter.

Morant was one of the most electrifying players in the NBA a few years ago with the Grizzlies, but a combination of injuries, off-court issues, and an overall regression in play ultimately rendered his trade value near-zero last year, allowing the Blazers to acquire him for a very low price this summer.

Still, many fans are wondering how the Blazers' guard rotation will work with Morant, Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Scoot Henderson, and others all seemingly in need of minutes.

Of course, a similar question was leveled at the San Antonio Spurs last year regarding their guard trio of Dylan Harper, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle, but that team had the benefit of having Victor Wembanyama behind them in the paint.

New Blazers head coach Micah Nori will certainly have his work cut out for him as he tries to figure out how to bring the best out of his collection of backcourt players, while still allowing star Deni Avdija to get the touches he needs to be his most effective.

The Blazers will kick off their new season on October 21 with a home game against the Phoenix Suns.
