The San Jose Sharks have been applauded this summer for the strength of their young prospects. One of those prospects put together a fabulous performance at the Rookie Faceoff. That is winger Ivar Stenberg, who posted two goals in just 25 seconds for the Sharks in a win over the Los Angeles Kings.

“It was fun,” Stenberg said, per NHL.com. “First (game) in a long time, but super fun. (Misa and Chernyshov are) really good players.”

Stenberg is just 18 years old, and was the second overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. He played in the Swedish Hockey League last season, where he posted 33 points in 43 games.

The young skater is getting used to now playing in North America.

“It's fun, but yeah, it's different,” he said. “I’ve got to learn as quickly as possible. Just getting stronger (and) faster (will help me adjust). Work on everything. Shoot the puck. I've been working the whole summer.”

The Sharks already have one of the youngest phenoms in the game, in Macklin Celebrini. Sharks fans hope that Celebrini can lead the team back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2027. The Sharks almost qualified for the playoffs this past season but lost out.

San Jose will showcase their young stars once again in an upcoming rookie game against the Utah Mammoth. Training camp is also coming up for San Jose. Stenberg, like the other young skaters, is hoping to impress San Jose's coaches at camp.

“It's super fun to see all the fans and how good they are. This makes me really excited,” Stenberg said. “It's nice to get going, and yeah, (I'm) ready for training camp.”

During the 2025-26 campaign, the Sharks posted 86 points.
