NEW YORK -- As the Orioles attempt to keep their American League Wild Card hopes alive, they’ll be doing so without a key member of their lineup.

was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation prior to Wednesday night’s series finale vs. the Mets at Citi Field. It marks the second IL stint of the year for the 22-year-old second baseman, who began the year sidelined due to right hamate surgery.

Baltimore selected the contract of infielder  from Triple-A Norfolk as the corresponding transaction. Holliday’s IL placement was backdated to Tuesday.

Holliday was out of the O’s lineup for Tuesday’s 7-5, 11-inning win and did not appear in the game. He was again missing from the lineup on Wednesday, when manager Craig Albernaz said the youngster had been “banged up” of late.

“All of our guys are banged up,” Albernaz said. “Jackie, he’s been feeling it the past couple days. So, medical is doing their due diligence.”

After making his season debut on May 19, Holliday went on to hit .229 with 12 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 30 RBIs and a .640 OPS through the first 98 games of his third big league campaign. He’ll be eligible to be reinstated from the IL on Sept. 25, when the Orioles are scheduled to open their final three-game series of the season at Yankee Stadium.

Baltimore also remains without utility man Blaze Alexander (low back discomfort), who is eligible to return on Saturday, though he could need additional time.

Jeremiah Jackson started at second base for the O’s on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The 26-year-old homered in Tuesday’s victory, blasting a second-inning solo shot.

While Jackson is the front-runner to play second for the time being, Barrero is an option as well. The 28-year-old played 161 MLB games for the Reds and Cardinals from 2020-25, though this is his first time getting called up to the big leagues in ‘26.

Barrero signed with the Orioles in July 2025, then was a participant in big league Spring Training earlier this year. The utility infielder hit .202 with 14 doubles, one triple, 23 home runs, 57 RBIs and a .705 OPS in 124 games for Triple-A Norfolk this season.

The O’s entered Wednesday with a 74-78 record and were sitting three games back of the White Sox (77-75) for the third AL Wild Card spot at the start of the finale in New York.
