The Miami Heat gave fans their first look at the new-look roster on Tuesday night, and one team in the annual Red, White, and Pink Game seemed determined to test the limits of the 3-point line.

According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, the Red Team attempted 40 3-pointers in the first half alone of the intrasquad scrimmage at Kaseya Center.

For context, NBA teams typically take somewhere in the high 30s for an entire regular-season game. The Red Team got there in two quarters. Scrimmage numbers come with obvious caveats, but the volume says plenty about how Erik Spoelstra wants this group to play.

The Heat have leaned hard into pace and spacing heading into the season. The roster now includes Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the coaching staff has talked openly about wanting to play fast around him. Surrounding a dominant downhill threat with shooters who are willing to let it fly is a natural fit, and Tuesday offered an extreme preview of that philosophy.

The opening lineup featured Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, Davion Mitchell, Klay Thompson and Simone Fontecchio. It was Antetokounmpo's first time playing in front of Heat fans at Kaseya Center.

“I feel good. This is my first time being out here with fans. It's good to be on this side,” Antetokounmpo said.

Mitchell also provided one of the lighter moments of the night. The guard threw down two dunks, his first in an NBA setting since the 2022-23 season with the Sacramento Kings, a development Chiang made sure to note in real time.

Not everyone was available. Andrew Wiggins and Pelle Larsson sat out with illness, while Dru Smith and Keshad Johnson were held out with injuries.

The scrimmage also carried a bigger purpose. Proceeds benefited the Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute as part of a breast cancer tribute.

“This night is about the survivors and everybody who is dealing with this,” Spoelstra said after the scrimmage.

The Heat now turn to the preseason, hosting the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. Miami opens the regular season on October 21 against the Timberwolves, and if Tuesday was any indication, opposing defenses should be ready to close out on shooters all night.
