Hall of Fame linebacker and Penn State radio analyst Jack Ham was in stable condition after experiencing a medical emergency Saturday in Seattle, Nittany Lions coach Matt Campbell said after his team's 28-25 win over Washington.

Ham, 77, was transported to University of Washington Medical Center, where he was being treated.

Campbell called it a "gut-wrenching day for Penn State football," and said play-by-play announcer Steve Jones, Ham's longtime radio broadcast partner, made a "heroic effort" in assisting Ham.

"If it's not for Steve, what he did, I don't know if we have as good a news as we do right now," said Campbell, who also praised Washington athletic director Pat Chun and the Huskies' staff for helping Ham.

Ham has been the radio analyst for his alma mater since 2000.

Ham was a six-time All-Pro selection with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he won four Super Bowl championships and made eight total Pro Bowl appearance. He earned All-America honors at Penn State in 1970.

He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and the College Football Hall of Fame two years later.

The Johnstown, Pennsylvania, native was named to the NFL's 1970s All-Decade Team and all-time teams for both the NFL and Steelers, who have Ham in their hall of honor.
