The Cleveland Guardians announced their playoff roster for the American League Division Series on Saturday. The biggest previous question about the roster was whether first baseman Rhys Hoskins and reliever Colin Holderman would be available given their injuries. Earlier this week, however, it was revealed that Holderman will undergo wrist surgery and miss the remainder of the season. As for Hoskins, he hasn't played since the middle of August due to lower back inflammation, and he won't be returning for the ALDS.

Cleveland's infielders for the ALDS include Jose Ramirez, Brayan Rocchio, Travis Bazzana, Angel Genao, Daniel Schneemann and Nathaniel Lowe. Although David Fry is listed as an outfielder, he will likely platoon with Lowe at first base.

The Guardians would have liked to have included Hoskins on the roster. While his .179 batting average and .682 OPS are underwhelming, the fact of the matter is that Hoskins offers home run prowess to a ball club that doesn't hit many long balls. Hoskins recorded 13 home runs in just 95 games played during the regular season.

Had the right-handed hitting Hoskins made the roster, the first base platoon would have been with Hoskins and the left-handed hitting Lowe. Now Fry, who bats right-handed, will fill Hoskins' role.

It remains to be seen if Hoskins will be available later in the postseason if Cleveland advances.

The Guardians are turning to Parker Messick in Game 1 of the series against the Chicago White Sox. Chicago will start Hagen Smith. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
