The Cleveland Guardians took control of first place in the American League Central after defeating the Chicago White Sox by a final score of 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Progressive Field. While the AL Central is still far from decided, Cleveland is currently in first place. The Guards had an unlikely hero on Wednesday, as outfielder Petey Halpin recorded a couple of hits including a clutch three-run home run.

“It was 3-0, I knew that I had (Brayan) Rocchio behind me (in the lineup). I was looking to see him land a pitch, land a strike,” Halpin said after the game, via MLB Network Radio. “And then I knew he was probably going to want to come at me again, not wanting to face Rocchio. I was expecting a ball in the zone, probably hard. Just trying to put barrel to the ball and get the next guy up.”

Halpin has only played in 80 career MLB games. His inexperience did not stand in the way of having a quality approach and understanding of the situation on Wednesday, though.

Brayan Rocchio has been one of the most clutch hitters in the sport. He may hit ninth in Cleveland's lineup, but he may have been the last guy the White Sox would have wanted to face in the 6th inning in a 3-2 game and the bases loaded. With a 3-1 count, Halpin knew he was going to get something good to hit, so he sat on the fastball and took a big swing. The White Sox did not want to walk him.
