With the Cleveland Guardians in the midst of the ALCS against the Tampa Bay Rays, winning Game 1 on Monday, 7-3, it has been a collective effort from many, though one key factor was a player the team got right before the trade deadline. As the Guardians have hopes for a World Series, general manager Mike Chernoff would give insight into the impact Nathaniel Lowe has had with Cleveland.

Starting with the Guardians' ALCS opponent in Tampa Bay for the first two seasons of his career in 2019 and 2020, Lowe has been a dependable bat for his career, whether it be with other teams like the Texas Rangers or others. Having been traded to Cleveland from the Cincinnati Reds, Chernoff revealed how the team had the opportunity to get him roughly 30 minutes before the deadline on Aug. 3.

“We knew we needed a right-handed bat. We weren't exactly sure we were going to be able to add a guy like Nate Lowe, and then the opportunity came like 30 minutes before the deadline. And it's not just the production he provides, but it's the conversations he's having with young players in the clubhouse that make a huge impact,” Chernoff said, via MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.

“I mean, the professional at-bats that he has, we couldn't hit it all with runners in scoring position,” Chernoff continued. “It was like becoming a thing…where it takes a life of its own in the clubhouse sometimes, and he comes in and just like shuts that down, and comes up, and he's knocking guys in left and right and having productive at-bats, and that's contagious. And we saw it really throughout the rest of the year with our offense.”
