The New York Giants have overcome plenty of adversity throughout the 2026 season. New York defeated Houston in Week 7 despite playing J.J. McCarthy against one of the league's best defensive fronts. Now the Giants must deal with a little more adversity after their latest injury update.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters on Tuesday that Tyrone Tracy Jr. will be placed on injured reserve, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Tracy will miss at least the next four games while he recovers from a hamstring injury. He suffered that injury in Week 7 against the Texans. Tracy ran the ball six times for 15 rushing yards and a touchdown in that contest. Fortunately, the Giants were able to lean heavily on Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary down the stretch to close it out.
New York let all of their running back eat in Week 7 after putting Skattebo in the dog house last week. However, a lot has changed since then.
The Giants already released Najee Harris and will now be without Tracy for multiple weeks. That means Skattebo and Singletary are the team's primary backs with only Greg Desrosiers Jr. in reserve.
As a result, the table is set perfectly for Skattebo to become the bell cow running back for the Giants. He's earned it, especially after ripping off 124 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries last week.

Still, the Giants are 4-2-1 and look to be in complete control of the NFC East. That is a minor miracle after losing so many talented players.
New York is on their bye in Week 8. Their next matchup is a Week 9 road game against the Eagles.
