With the New York Giants dealing with early-season adversity, quarterback Jameis Winston has embraced the opportunity to lead the team after Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury.

He is keeping his focus on the present as the Giants prepare for their Week 4 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

Now, with another challenge emerging around the quarterback room, Winston is focused on improving rather than looking too far ahead.

“Exactly what you said. Focusing on what I've got to do to get better, not just this week, but day-by-day,” Winston said. “It's going to be a different day. It's going to be a different week. But my desire is to, again, build on the positives and eliminate the negatives.”

Winston also laid out the mindset he wants to carry into Sunday.

“Whereas, watching practice, my desire tomorrow is going to be come out better, get 1% better the next day. And after tomorrow, I can't even think about tomorrow because it's not tomorrow. Today has enough worries of its own.”

The Giants are coming off a 12-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans, with Winston completing 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards. The defense delivered the decisive plays, while Winston managed the offense without throwing a touchdown or interception.

New York also added another quarterback this week, trading a fifth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy. Head coach John Harbaugh has named Winston the starter for the foreseeable future.

The Giants enter Week 4 at 2-1 and host the Cardinals on Sunday. Winston has completed 51% of his passes for 229 yards and carries a 55.6 quarterback rating through his two appearances.
