The New York Giants came through on the road in Week 7 with a 27-21 overtime victory over the Houston Texans. The Giants won the game when Devin Singletary sprinted 30 yards down the sideline and made it into the endzone.

While Singletary delivered the winning touchdown, fellow RB Cam Skattebo set up the score when he rumbled 42 yards on the preceding play. Skattebo took the handoff from J.J. McCarthy, took advantage of solid blocking by the New York offensive line and sprinted into the clear.

It appeared that Skattebo could have run for an additional 10 yards on the play, but he slid down at the 30. The running back said he decided to avoid being caught from behind because he said he “felt something” in the back of his hamstring and wanted to avoid an injury.

It appeared that Skattebo could have been vulnerable to the ball being punched out of his arms if he had been caught from behind by the Houston defense.

Running back returns with determination

Skattebo had a solid return to the Giants offense after he had been held without a carry in New York's Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints. He had 17 carries for 124 yards and he scored a touchdown. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry and punished the Houston defense with his hard-hitting style.

Skattebo's running game provided excellent support for QB J.J. McCarthy, who was making his first start for the Giants. McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards. He did not throw a TD pass, but he kept it clean on the interception side of the ledger.

Skattebo will have a chance to rest and recover from his hamstring issue since the Giants are headed into their bye week and won't return until Week 9 when they travel to Philadelphia.
