Georgia football is scheduled to face Alabama on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The potential impact of Tropical Storm Isaias has already created concerns surrounding the highly anticipated matchup. Now, another concern has emerged for the Bulldogs, as running back Chauncey Bowens is set to miss the game.
NFL insider Pete Thamel reported Bowens' absence while also providing a positive update regarding another Georgia running back, Nate Frazier.
“Big news for UGA. RB Chauncey Bowens is out. He hurt himself in the Vanderbilt game. No Nate Frazier on the report, which is a good sign for the Bulldogs,” Thamel reported.
Apart from Chauncey, wide receiver Thomas Blackshear, linebacker Amaris Williams, safety Tyriq Green, and offensive lineman Marcus Harrison will miss the upcoming game.
Bowens suffered the injury during last week's 38-14 victory over Vanderbilt. The junior running back headed to the locker room near halftime with the assistance of a trainer. Despite the setback, Bowens managed to return to the field after halftime and played through the remainder of the game.
Through the opening stretch of the season, Bowens has recorded 35 carries for 124 yards and six rushing touchdowns. That production has made him an important piece of Georgia's running-back rotation and a contributor the Bulldogs have relied on in their ground game.

Frazier's status will be particularly important moving forward. His initial availability report provides a positive sign for Kirby Smart's team as it prepares for the challenging SEC matchup.
Georgia enters the matchup ranked No. 2 nationally with a perfect 5-0 record. Meanwhile, Alabama is ranked No. 6 and also remains undefeated at 5-0.
