Jaland Lowe scored 23 points in his Georgetown debut, sparking the Hoyas' wire-to-wire 80-58 season-opening win over Loyola (Md.) on Monday in Washington.
Vincent Iwuchukwu added 21 points and nine rebounds as the Hoyas (1-0) won their opener for the fifth straight year.
Georgetown also got 14 points from Kansas transfer Elmarko Jackson.
Leo Ricketts scored all 10 of his points in the second half to pace Loyola (0-1), which lost its opening game for the 13th straight year.
Lowe, who struggled through injuries last season at Kentucky, made 5 of 8 shots from 3-point range, including a trio of triples before the game was four minutes old.
His driving layup on the game's opening possession triggered his surge. He scored 11 points as the Hoyas raced out to a 14-2 lead with 16:21 left in the first half.
The Greyhounds stayed in striking distance by scraping for second-chance points. They scored 11 of them in the first half.
A 3-pointer by Sebastien Emenalo (seven points, eight rebounds) midway through the period cut the deficit to 25-15 before the Hoyas answered with a 14-0 burst to go up 39-15.
Iwuchukwu triggered the run with a slam and finished it with a layup. Lowe and freshman Pedro Pastre added 3-pointers.
Lowe scored the final points of half, draining another triple to make it 44-20.
Loyola's best stretch of the game came early in the second half when it made eight consecutive shots, including five 3-pointers.
Ricketts started the streak with consecutive 3-pointers and finished it with a pair of driving layups. In between, Robbie Long III added two 3-pointers in a span of 27 seconds.
After Georgetown went in front 50-25, the Greyhounds scored 14 straight points to cut the deficit to 50-39 with 14:12 left, before Lowe steadied the Hoyas with two layups and a jumper from the paint.
Georgetown put the game away with a 16-point run that Jackson ignited with a pair of baskets. The 7-foot-1 Iwuchukwu then added 10 straight points as the Hoyas went up 72-45 with 4:35 to go.
