The New York Jets have still been the NFL's punching bag to start the Aaron Glenn era. New York is 2-4 on the season despite playing down to the wire in almost every game. One Jets player wants to see the franchise improve more than anyone else in the organization.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt addressed the discourse around Garrett Wilson in his latest article. Trade rumors around Wilson have heated up ahead of the NFL's trade deadline on November 10th.

Rosenblatt explained that there's no reason to believe that Wilson will become the next Sauce Gardner.

“The Jets currently have no intention of trading him, even if general manager Darren Mougey has shown he is willing to trade anyone,” Rosenblatt wrote. “Last year, Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner, draft classmates, signed extensions at the same time, then Gardner was traded a few months later.”

Rosenblatt also referenced back to a quote Wilson made back in August. He chose that quote to show that Wilson not only wants to win, he wants to do it in New York specifically.

“That’s the thing,” Wilson said. “I have a hard time saying it’s not deserved. You gotta earn it where people respect you without asking for it. Our fans, people who want to have our side, people who have rolled with us, people who defend us — it has come back to burn them. That stuff resonates with people. They hold on to that. Until we give them that (feeling of), ‘they proved me right, they held down their end of it,’ that’s how it’s going to be.”

Wilson has continued to thrive with the Jets over the past few seasons. The 26-year-old could be a core building block for New York in the future from a talent perspective. But he could also be an important locker room presence because of his incredible attitude.

Hopefully Wilson can eventually live out his dream of turning the Jets into a contender. That day could come sooner or later, as New York has a war chest of picks ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.

Either way, next up for the Jets is a home game against the winless Dolphins.
