The Boston Red Sox will have an early vacation after getting swept by the New York Yankees in their wild-card series in the playoffs. The Red Sox bowed to the Yankees, 9-2, at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.
Garrett Crochet made his much-awaited return after recovering from a shoulder injury. Playing in his first game since April, he took the mound in the sixth inning, with the Red Sox trailing the Yankees, 2-1. He did not record an out and allowed four runs to score.
Crochet expressed his dismay in the locker room after their elimination.
“It sucks. Personally, I think I busted my ass for the past five months, and for it to end that way is tough. I just wanted to come back and contribute to the team as best as I could, and I let them down,” said Crochet in a video shared by Section 10's Tyler Milliken.
“These guys grinded all year long. I think that we're maybe a little undeserving of the fate that we got, but sometimes that's the game. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's s***. Sometimes you do all the right things, and it still doesn't go your way.”

Crochet tipped his hat to the Yankees for outclassing them.
“Ultimately, they executed at a higher clip than us. That's the game,” added the veteran pitcher.
Boston activated the 27-year-old left-hander for the playoffs despite his lack of action, hoping he could give the bullpen a boost. The decision, however, backfired.
The Red Sox will now turn the page, as they lost to the Yankees in the wild-card round for the second straight year. Crochet will have the offseason to recharge and wait for another opportunity to prove what he can do when fully healthy.
