Former NBA lottery pick Josh Jackson is set to face streetball standout Cameron “Beno” Smith at the Ballislife “Redemption” 1v1 event Saturday at Renaissance High School in Detroit.

The two will go face to face amid a recent surge in hype before the basketball event. During the pre-event conversation with Ballislife, Jackson predicted a 30-15 win over Smith, who was named the 2025 BIG3 New Player of the Year.

Smith, a 6-foot-7 wing who played for the BIG3's Detroit Amps last season, knows the pressure that comes with facing a former NBA player. He pointed out that he could take criticism regardless of the result.

“Fans are going to say if I beat him he's a washed-up pro,” Beno said. “If I lose, that's what he do. It's a bad loss for me because he's fresh off the couch.”

Jackson was the No. 4 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft after playing at Kansas. He spent five seasons in the NBA that spread across the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, Detroit Pistons, and Sacramento Kings.

His best season came in 2020-21 with Detroit, when he averaged 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

However, Saturday's matchup will follow Ballislife's 1-on-1 format, with games played to 30 points using 2- and 3-point shots. Players will also face dribble limits and more physical play than in a traditional NBA game.

Jackson will try to back up his prediction against Smith, one of the more experienced isolation players on the card. The event also features former NBA player Jonathon Simmons against Nasir Core, along with matchups involving Rob Colon and Walt Lemon Jr.
