The Florida football program is currently gearing up for its upcoming game at home vs the Oklahoma Sooners. The Gators are ranked number 24 in the country after a recent blowout loss at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs and are hoping to make amends for that defeat in the matchup vs the Sooners.

Unfortunately, on Thursday, the Gators got a tough injury update ahead of that matchup.

“Florida WR Vernell Brown III is not expected to play against Oklahoma,” reported college football insider Pete Nakos of On3 Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Nakos also reported that Brown III had previously been listed as doubtful on the injury report.

Florida is expected to start Tramell Jones Jr. at quarterback this week after Aaron Philo's tough day against the Bulldogs, which resulted in him being benched down the stretch of that game after tossing multiple interceptions.

Jones Jr. didn't exactly fare much better for the rest of the game, but Gators fans still seem to feel better about their chances with him at the helm. Moving forward without Brown III will certainly make things even more difficult against a solid Oklahoma defense.

Both Oklahoma and Florida have been capable of big things this year, most notably both knocking off the Texas Longhorns, but they've also dealt with rampant inconsistency, so it will be fascinating to see which version of each team shows up for this matchup on Saturday.

In any case, kickoff between the Sooners and Gators is set for Saturday at 7:45 pm ET from The Swamp.
