The Calgary Flames have been up and down to start the season so far, but they could be getting some big help soon. Devin Cooley had been sidelined for a few games after an injury, but it looks like the Flames are ready to bring him back into the fold, according to Pat Steinberg of Flames Now.

“Calgary has activated Devin Cooley off injured reserve. Cooley is ready to return after missing four games with a lower body injury. Arsenii Sergeev was returned to the AHL Wranglers earlier Thursday,” Steinberg wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

This is good news for the Flames, as they get back a player who fans have loved this season. In seven games, Cooley is 4-3-0 with a .914 SV% and 2.69 GAA. He's also 12th-best in Goals Saved Above Expected per 60 among the 41 qualified netminders.

With Cooley returning, the Flames are reassigning Sergeev. He played one game for the Flames during his call-up, in which they lost to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Flames didn't start the season the best, as they were once 1-6-0, but have since improved their record to 7-8-1. The hope is that they can continue playing at a high level so they can climb the standings. There are a few teams that they have to try to catch, but with the return of Cooley, there is a chance they could do so.

After being near the bottom of the Pacific Division last season, the Flames want to make sure they're making improvements to start this season so they don't find themselves in the same situation.
