The New York Islanders have been a middle-of-the-pack team so far this season. While the team is 7-5-2, the Islanders have been without multiple players, including Mathew Barzal and Matias Maccelli.
Now, as the team prepared to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night, three of the injured players returned to the ice for the morning skate.
Barzal and Maccelli, along with blueliner Ryan Pulock, were back on the ice on Thursday, all of them wearing a red non-contact jersey.
Barzal was on the ice for the first time this season as he returns from left knee inflammation. He has played his entire career with the Islanders after being drafted in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the franchise. He has played 611 games with the team, scoring 153 goals while adding 381 assists. Last year, he played in 81 games, scoring 19 goals with 53 assists, leading the team in points.
Maccelli has not been on the ice since being hurt against the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 17. He has been dealing with a lower-body injury. Maccelli is in his first season with the Islanders, after spending last year with the Maple Leafs. He has played in eight games with two goals and four assists.
