It’s usually a challenge to find a good fantasy football defense early in the NFL season. Even the vaunted Texans got shredded in Week 1. So you need to choose carefully. And here’s help with our fantasy football 2026 Week 2 start 'em and sit 'em advice for defense and special teams.

The Texans remain at the top of the list for the rest-of-season rankings. They are closely followed by the Seahawks and Rams. But let’s see if any of that trio makes our start ‘em list.

Week 2 Start ‘Em

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Titans

Not only do the Eagles have a tough defense, but they also have a great matchup. It’s a win-win. And there’s no reason to have any concern using the Eagles this week, according to NBC Sports.

“This is a “get right” spot for the Eagles on defense, even if it’s a road game,” Gary Davenport wrote. “Last week, the Titans couldn’t run the ball. Or throw the ball. Or block especially well. Other than that, the team that allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game to defenses last year was fine.”

Even though the Eagles’ defense faltered late against the Commanders, this is such a sturdy unit. And consider what they’re facing. The Titans couldn’t muster much of anything against a Jets defense that doesn’t strike fear into anyone’s heart. Cam Ward threw for only 140 yards and got sacked three times. Plus, the Titans managed only 68 yards on 14 carries.

And here’s the great thing. The Eagles should create turnovers against the Titans. Add that to what should be four or five sacks, and you have fantasy defense gold.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Dolphins

The Dolphins have that look of being a terrible offense this season. They managed only 259 yards in Week 1 and scored just 13 points.

And considering that the 49ers surprised everybody by dismantling the vaunted Rams offense, this is a great spot to start this fantasy defense, according to Pro Football Network.

“The Dolphins were noncompetitive against Las Vegas in Week 1 despite entering the game with a favorable setup,” Jason Katz wrote. “Malik Willis generally doesn’t throw enough to create huge interception volume, but he did make one costly mistake and also took a couple of avoidable sacks.”

Look for the 49ers to overwhelm the Dolphins in this game. The Dolphins will have to either take a beating and run the clock, or they will have to put the ball in harm’s way.

Seattle Seahawks at Cardinals

The rivalry could keep this game interesting for a while. But this is the best bet for a defensive touchdown. Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett is the best in NFL history, along with Aaron Rodgers, at protecting the ball from interceptions. So maybe it’s not a pick-six. But look for a sack, fumble, scoop, and score play from the Seahawks.

Also, this is a great chance for the Seahawks to hit a fantasy home run in the return game. If it’s sounding a little boom or bust, that’s OK. The Seahawks will still do the other things with sacks, tackles for loss, and a low point total.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Browns

One thing you can bet on this season is defensive elevation in the rankings for teams going up against the Browns. That’s especially true as long as Deshaun Watson is quarterbacking the show in Cleveland.

The Buccaneers need a bounce-back after getting roughed up by the Bengals. And this is a great spot for it. You will see a lot of fantasy managers turning to the Buccaneers for their streaming needs this week.

Week 2 Sit ‘Em

Green Bay Packers at Jets

It’s hard to feel confident about the Packers after their performance against the Vikings. What would have happened to them if Kyler Murray hadn’t been injured? If you can’t stop Carson Wentz, can you handle Geno Smith?

The good news is the Packers didn’t give up a ton of yards to the Vikings. But points matter, and 39 was the third-worst effort in the NFL last week.

This sit-em advice isn’t about the Jets being good this season. They aren’t. It’s more about the Packers missing Micah Parsons and whether they will be any good as a fantasy defense until he returns.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Patriots

Week 1 turned out OK for the Steelers. But they were facing Cooper Rush. They should have held the Falcons down. And they did.

However, the Patriots are a different animal. And this is a week where Drake Maye should have a great fantasy afternoon. Yes, Maye won’t have AJ Brown. And that could hurt. But look for the team to make adjustments and move the football more effectively than they did against the Seahawks.

Cameron Heyward knows the Steelers didn’t look as good in Week 1 as the scoreboard showed, according to Not Just Football with Cam Heyward via Heavy.com.

“Not good enough. Now good enough,” Heyward said on his podcast. “Known factors. We’ve gotta stop really good backs in this league. “They run the ball with success, run downhill. But, we can’t be giving up 100 yards. That’s unacceptable.”

Chicago Bears vs. Vikings

This one might look tempting if the Vikings are without Murray again. However, the Bears simply did not look good on defense against the Panthers. And it kind of looks like they will just try to outscore everybody this season.

Don’t take the matchup bait here. Avoid the Bears until they prove they can stop somebody.
