Formula 1 has released the schedule for the 2027 season, which includes both new races and a record ten F1 Sprint weekends.

Including a new F1 Sprint weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The schedule includes the return of races in Portugal and Türkiye. The Portugal Grand Prix, scheduled for June 20, 2027 in Portimã0, last appeared on the calendar in 2021 as an adjustment for the COVID-19 pandemic. The Turkish Grand Prix, slated for October 3 at Istanbul Park, also last appeared on the calendar in 2021 as part of the adjusted schedule that year.

In addition to Portugal and Türkiye returning, the major changes include an increase to ten F1 Sprint weekends. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi will host F1 Sprint races for the first time, meaning the season begins with a Sprint race in Bahrain, and closes with a Sprint race in Abu Dhabi.

F1 noted in the announcement that television viewership during F1 Sprint weekends is 12% higher than non-F1 Sprint weekends.

With twenty-four Grands Prix across five continents, the return of Portugal and Türkiye, and the opportunity for an expanded Sprint programme, the calendar combines tradition, innovation, and fan engagement while maintaining the highest sporting standards.

The biggest surprise might be the inclusion of an F1 Sprint race at the Monaco Grand Prix. The F1 Sprint schedule adds a qualifying session on Friday, before the F1 Sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday. While an extra qualifying session on the tight Monte Carlo streets does add some excitement in theory, how much will drivers push the envelope during that session, knowing an F1 Sprint Race, Grand Prix qualifying, and the Grand Prix itself are coming up? A major mistake could put a driver, and a team, severely on the back foot for the rest of the weekend.
