Former WWE and AEW wrestler Mercedes Martinez is currently set to undergo ACL surgery. Almost a month ago, while performing at an independent wrestling event, Martinez tore her ACL. This serious injury sidelined her from in-ring action.

Martinez, who was earlier scheduled to retire this year in 2026, has now had her plans cancelled. The 45-year-old veteran had to retire early from wrestling and cancel all of her previous retirement show plans.

Now required to undergo ACL surgery on her right knee, Martinez has asked for financial help to cover the cost of her surgery and rehab. She recently started a GoFundMe campaign on Sept. 7, 2026, with a $25,000 target. Over the last few days, the GoFundMe page has collected several donations and is now roughly over $10000, which Martinez believes is enough to cover the deposit for her surgery.

“Good news! ACL surgery is 10/15. Enough to cover deposit, but not quite at full surgery cost. 1 month to go & [folded hands emoji] get the surgery fully paid. TY for every donation/share. Truly humbled & grateful. [love emoji]” Martinez wrote in her latest update. “Goal 1: Surgery. Goal 2: Rehab.”

Martinez had previously mentioned that after her time with AEW came to an end, the benefits she received from Tony Khan's promotion went away too. On her GoFundMe page, Martinez shares the hardships of working as a professional wrestler. She noted that following her switch to independent wrestling, she suffered a major pay drop and, as a result, has to sustain her own healthcare without any insurance.

Martinez, 45, is a veteran pro-wrestler with experience across multiple top promotions, including WWE and AEW, as well as the indies.
