The Houston Astros and Dana Brown mutually agreed to part ways during the 2026 MLB season. The decision came during a season that saw Houston win the lackluster American League West despite only earning 81 victories. They were ultimately defeated in the Wild Card round of the postseason. Brown, who was the general manager of the team, has found a new gig, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY reports.

“Former Astros GM Dana Brown returns to Atlanta as a senior adviser with amateur scouting,” Nightengale wrote.

The announcement comes just one day after the Astros announced Brown's replacement, as they hired Randy Flores. Flores, who most recently worked as the St. Louis Cardinals assistant general manager, is hoping to help the Astros find more consistent success.

Meanwhile, Brown brings his general manager experience into his new role with the Braves. Brown has experience in the scouting department, having served in related roles with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals and even the Braves. In fact, he was previously the vice president of scouting with Atlanta before landing his GM role with Houston.

Brown took over the Astros job in 2023. He helped the Astros find success over all, but they have not won the World Series since 2022. With their championship window likely closing soon, Houston ultimately went in a different direction.

The Braves' championship window is open right now. Brown will look to help Atlanta take steps toward winning their first championship since the 2021 campaign.
