The Boston Celtics were able to escape Tuesday night's contest against the Brooklyn Nets, but needed overtime to do so. Jayson Tatum saved the day when it came down to it, looking like the superstar New England has come to know and love.
Tatum finished Tuesday's game with 40 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and one blocked shot in 42 minutes of play. He shot 10-of-20 from the field and 18-of-22 from the free throw line. With the win, the Celtics improved to 3-1 on the season and have won three straight since their NBA opening day loss against the Detroit Pistons.
After the game, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla couldn't help but praise his superstar.
“I mean, he was just giving in exactly what I need,” Mazzulla said of Jayson Tatum, according to Justin Turpin. “I mean, even throughout the game, I thought he was playing the right way. I thought he trusted on both ends of the floor. He was patient, he was getting down hill. Even with some of the shots he missed, I thought they were great shots. Effectively, he was active and I thought he just gave the game exactly what he did and stayed in the present moment, and you got to see his greatness.”

Through the first four games of the season, Jayson Tatum is sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 28 points, 6.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. He's doing so, however, while struggling shooting from the field at just 43 percent from the field and 24.1 percent from three.
Once Tatum finds his shot, this Boston Celtics team will be even more of a threat in the Western Conference.
