The New York Knicks, and team owner James Dolan, came under fire recently for the way they handled the distribution of championship rings following the franchise’s first NBA title in over 50 years. The hits keep in coming for the Knicks, with ESPN analyst Tim McMahon being one of the latest to drop criticism on Dolan and the organization for the entire fiasco.
“James Dolan was one of the NBA’s biggest villains for the vast majority of his tenure. He was one of the most despised people in New York City, and he’s done a great job of reminding people just why they despised him in the first place,” McMahon said. “The Knicks won a championship despite having a bad owner. They overcame bad ownership to win a championship.”
The entire ordeal began with the Knicks’ assistant coaches not getting their championship rings on right night as the team squared off against the Philadelphia 76ers. And it snowballed into an entire fiasco when it was revealed that team employees were essentially tricked into failing a cybersecurity test with the lure of receiving a championship ring.

This isn’t the first issue that the Knicks have had to deal with amid the start of the season. The organization had also come under criticism from fans and pundits alike for the recent handling and eventually tabling of contract extension talks for key players such as Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart.
