Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell hung his head low in the locker room after their loss to the Buffalo Bills, 41-31, at New Highmark Stadium on Thursday.

Campbell did not hide his dejection in the way he performed. With the Lions' defense getting hit by multiple injuries, Bills quarterback Josh Allen took advantage and torched them with five touchdowns, including two rushing.

After the game, the 26-year-old Campbell was seemingly on the verge of tears when he was talking to reporters.

“I'm gonna be honest with you, hats off to them (Bills). I played terrible. It starts with me, and I feel like it's on me. I gotta be better,” said the fourth-year enforcer.

“I have no other thing to do but to look in the mirror and be better. That's really where it starts. It starts with us. But yeah, they did a good job.”

Campbell had six total tackles and one quarterback hit against the Bills.

Detroit rallied from a 21-point deficit to cut Buffalo's lead to 10 points, 34-24. The Lions, however, sputtered in the closing minutes, allowing the Bills to hold on to the victory.

Allen notched his 90th win in the regular season, becoming one of four signal-callers to reach the milestone through their first nine seasons.

Detroit coach Dan Campbell admitted that the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow, but he added that they will grow from it.

Lions defensive back Avonte Maddox suffered a knee injury in the second quarter and did not return, dealing another blow to the team's depleted secondary.

Detroit will face the New York Jets in Week 3.
