As the Texas football program recorded a 30-6 win over UTSA last Saturday, the talk around the team centered on a situation with head coach Steve Sarkisian, quarterback Arch Manning, and ESPN reporter Holly Rowe. While the controversy around the Texas football team is in the rearview mirror, Arch's uncle, Eli Manning, would give his thoughts on what went down.

To refresh, after Sarkisian walked off and avoided a post-game interview with Rowe after the Longhorns' 24-23 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Sept. 12, an artificial intelligence (AI) video circulated of Sarkisian striking Rowe in that same scenario. Manning would bring up the fake video in a press conference, calling it “hilarious,” which inevitably led to an apology to Rowe.

Eli Manning has advice for Texas football's Arch Manning

Eli Manning spoke with Front Office Sports (FOC) about the matter and was asked if he reached out to his nephew about the situation, offering a piece of advice.

“I didn't reach out after that one. Reached out after the Ohio State game and just said proud of him, hanging in there, tough, wasn't easy to start the game, but he stayed patient…most of my advice, more football stuff. He'll have to figure out that media on his own, and a lot of it is just kind of growing pains,” Manning said.

“You feel like they're your pal, you relax with them a little bit, you try to be funny, and then they can take it and run,” Manning continued. “So you just gotta you gotta be careful. You gotta find your moments where you can be funny, you can be relaxed, but there's certain things that you know you just gotta learn and deal with it. And I think he has learned, and he apologized and did the right steps in handling that.”

At any rate, Manning looks to take the advice and continue to play at a high level, with the Longhorns' next game coming on Saturday against the Tennessee Volunteers.
