After a summer filled with hope and hype, ex-Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks showed up in a major way for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, catching two balls for 73 yards and a touchdown on the way to a 24-21 win over the Washington Commanders.

Discussing what he saw from Wicks in his Midnight Green debut at the Linc and how it compares to their time together in Green Bay, Sean Mannion noted that he has long known the 25-year-old was a good wide receiver and is excited he now has an opportunity to show it off.

“Obviously my background with Tay, you could always see the talent. It was a deep position group in Green Bay. To answer your question, yeah, we could see him making big plays. He made a ton of big plays. The Detroit game last year was a good example. We had caught a through route really to ice the game in four-minute, we caught a double move in that game,” Mannion explained.

“You could always see it. It was his playtime there or whatever, it wasn’t an indication of his talent level. It was more just the depth of that room in Green Bay in particular. So, now he’s got an opportunity to get some more snaps Week 1 and really thrive with them. I’m not surprised. He’s been working super hard. He’s got a ton of ability. He’s totally bought in to the program here that [Head Coach] Nick [Sirianni]’s laid in place, and it came to life on Sunday.”

In Week 1, Wicks was on the field for 91 percent of the Eagles' snaps, a mark he never previously reached in any regular season game as a member of the Packers. Though he only caught two of the four targets thrown his way, in the end, they accounted for two of the biggest offensive plays for the Eagles on the day, with his 64-yard catch serving as the longest reception by any player in the game, and his touchdown grab helping to eke out a win in South Philadelphia. No matter how the Eagles' offense evolves over the next few weeks, it's clear Wicks will be a big part of it.
