The Philadelphia Eagles had quite the turbulent week leading up to Week 5. Philly saw Lane Johnson suddenly retire and also traded Cam Jurgens to Baltimore in just a matter of days. That has many around the NFL curious if Philadelphia's front office plans to make more moves in the coming weeks.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared an update on where the Eagles stand after an eventful week of moves. Philly is reportedly not interested in having a fire sale despite their rough start to the season.
“The [Jurgens] trade caused many around the league to wonder if there is a selloff coming in Philadelphia,” Rapoport wrote on Sunday. “In other words, does general manager Howie Roseman believe it's time to trade expensive pieces away, knowing it may not be his season? According to those involved, absolutely not.”
Eagles GM Howie Roseman previously shut down rebuild discussions shortly after the Jurgens trade.
Rapoport argued Philly could use their future draft capital to add a player who could help the team right away. That could be a smart move with the roster already in a good spot.
“Based on the way the roster looks, the Eagles think they can win now. Philadelphia has talent all over the place on defense, a quarterback who has won plenty, and proven players at the skill positions,” Rapoport added. “There is a lot the Eagles like, which is why, although rival GMs ask the question of whether they trade their top skill players like Saquon Barkley, a move like that would fly in the face of a team trying to win now. Essentially, the Jurgens trade was too much to turn down for a player who may have had to play guard in Philadelphia anyway.”
