Atlanta Dream wing Rhyne Howard made WNBA history Thursday night, setting a new single-season record for 3-pointers during a 103-59 rout of the Connecticut Sun.

Howard entered the game needing one triple to surpass Sabrina Ionescu's previous mark of 128, set in 2023. The 26-year-old missed her first eight attempts from beyond the arc before finally connecting with 6:45 remaining in the fourth quarter. The shot gave Howard her 129th 3-pointer of the season and sole possession of the league record.

She finished the game with 10 points and went 1-for-9 from 3-point range. Her record-breaking performance came in Atlanta's 41st game of the season, while Ionescu reached 128 triples in 36 games during a 40-game 2023 campaign.

The four-time WNBA All-Star has set several 3-point milestones this season. On Aug. 10, she became the fastest player in WNBA history to make 100 3-pointers in a season, reaching the mark in 31 games. Howard surpassed the previous record of 33 games, which she shared with Diana Taurasi. Earlier, on June 11, she became the youngest player in league history to reach 400 career 3-pointers, doing so in 147 games.

Howard's record-setting season has also come with improved efficiency. She is shooting a career-best 36.7% from 3-point range while averaging a career-high 18.3 points. She is also averaging 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and a league-leading 2.4 steals per game.

Howard had four steals against Connecticut, leaving her four shy of tying Teresa Weatherspoon's WNBA single-season record of 148 steals, which was established in 30 games in 1998.

The Dream improved to 27-14 with the win and moved into the fourth seed in the WNBA standings. Atlanta was led by Angel Reese, who finished with 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes. The performance gave Reese her 30th double-double of the season and left her one point short of her career high.

Allisha Gray added 10 points and broke her own Dream franchise record for points in a season, reaching 782. Suns' Olivia Nelson-Ododa led the team with 13 points, all scored in the first half. Atlanta outscored Connecticut 31-11 in the third quarter and 27-13 in the fourth.

Howard and Reese both returned to action after helping Team USA win gold at the FIBA World Championship.

The Dream will next host the Chicago Sky on Saturday night.
