Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson spearheaded the offensive charge with three goals and an assist in Saturday night's 7-4 win over the New York Rangers at Canadian Tire Centre.
He completed his third NHL hat trick in unusual fashion, scoring into an empty net after blocking a shot from Rangers defenseman Adam Fox at 19:48. The puck traveled the length of the ice and entered New York's unguarded net.

Batherson opened the scoring at 5:34 of the first period after receiving a pass from Jake Sanderson and beating goaltender Dylan Garand. Tim Stutzle doubled Ottawa's advantage just 1:06 later, finishing Fabian Zetterlund's pass for his third consecutive game with a goal.
Batherson struck again at 1:47 of the second period, converting a pass from Dylan Cozens to give the Senators a 3-0 lead. However, the Rangers responded through Will Cuylle's shorthanded goal before Cozens restored Ottawa's three-goal cushion at 11:21. Cozens' goal was his first of the season.
New York continued its comeback attempt as JT Miller scored at 12:54 and Alexis Lafreniere found the net at 19:34, cutting the Senators' advantage to 4-3 before the second intermission.
Jake Sanderson provided some breathing room in the third period by collecting a rebound and scoring his first goal of the season to make it 5-3. Pavel Dorofeyev answered at 15:32, bringing the Rangers within one again and putting pressure on Ottawa late in the contest.
Michael Amadio scored a crucial insurance goal at 18:46 after New York pulled Garand for an extra attacker. Then Batherson struck for the third time, completing his hat trick and matching Dany Heatley and Marian Hossa for the most home hat tricks in Senators history, with three each.
Article Continues BelowSanderson contributed a goal and two assists. Cozens also finished with a goal and an assist, and Johansson stopped 24 shots in his Ottawa debut. Garand made 17 saves for the Rangers, who have lost two consecutive games and four of their past five.
The victory improved the Senators record to 8-4-0 following Thursday's 6-2 defeat against the San Jose Sharks. Ottawa now begins a five-game, 11-day road trip, starting Tuesday versus Vegas Golden Knights.
The Senators will likely rely on Jonas Johansson and Samuel Ersson during the trip, with starting goaltender Linus Ullmark on injured reserve after sustaining an injury against the Florida Panthers. Head coach Travis Green also expressed hope that defenseman Thomas Chabot, who will travel with the team, could return to action during the road swing.
