The Dolphins won’t go winless this season.

Malik Willis threw two touchdowns, ran for another and converted a sneak on fourth-and-1 at the two-minute mark of the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on a 28-25 win over the Jets at MetLife Stadium. It’s the third time the Dolphins have won on the road since the start of the 2025 season and two of those wins have come over Aaron Glenn’s club.

That’s no great surprise as Sunday’s loss moves Glenn to 0-8 against divisional opponents since taking the Jets job. They’re now 2-5 on the season and losing this game will do little to make the case that Glenn deserves more time to show that he can be a capable NFL head coach.

The Jets fell behind 21-7 in the first half as their defense got rolled over by Willis, running back Ollie Gordon, and tight end Greg Dulcich. The Jets’ offense showed plenty of spark, but a Geno Smith interception quashed one scoring chance and Glenn sat on his timeouts late in the first half to ensure the Jets couldn’t answer after Willis’s touchdown run.

Smith hit rookie wideout Omar Cooper for a 60-yard gain to set up a third quarter touchdown pass to the rookie and the Jets defense finally forced stops that set up another trip deep into Dolphins territory. A first down at the Miami 1-yard-line turned into three straight negative plays, however, and the Jets had to settle for a field goal rather than tying the game at 21.

Willis answered that score by staying in the pocket long enough to find rookie Caleb Douglas with a short pass that turned into a 63-yard touchdown thanks to Douglas’s elusiveness and abhorrent tackling by the Jets. The Jets rallied back and cut the lead to three on tight end Mason Taylor’s second touchdown catch of the day, but one more defensive breakdown meant that they’re now 2-5.

Offense wasn’t the problem for the Jets on Sunday, but wide receiver Garrett Wilson was an afterthought for most of the day and could be seen in spirited conversation with Smith on the sideline at one point. He’s likely not the only player feeling some negative emotions about how this season is playing out because the Jets have consistently let winnable games get away from them thanks to major breakdowns at major moments of games.

We’ll see if that has any impact on Glenn’s job security before the Jets host the Raiders in Week 8. The Dolphins will try to make it two in a row at home against the Patriots.
