The Jets fell to 2-5 on Sunday by losing 28-25 at home to a previously winless Dolphins team that took a 21-7 halftime lead and then held on in the second half of the game.

After the game, head coach Aaron Glenn said he was “disappointed in myself first and foremost” because of the way the defense failed to perform in the first half of the game. Glenn calls the plays on that side of the ball and nothing he did worked out until the Jets were trying to dig themselves out of a hole. They held the Dolphins at bay long enough to cut the lead to four points in the fourth quarter, but then gave up a 63-yard touchdown and failed to stop Miami on a late fourth down that sealed the win for the road team.

Glenn pointed to that second half life as reason to believe that he has the Jets moving in the right direction.

“I would say yes. The reason why I would say that is cause there’s no quit in these guys,” Glenn said at his press conference. “I know what the record is, I do, but I know what I feel about these players and how hard these players play. Come out the second half, it was probably doom and gloom from everything outside of it. But inside this locker room, the guys were ready to go and I think they showed up. I know that we’re not where we need to be, but I totally believe that we’re on the right track.”

Glenn went on to say that it’s been seven games and that the Jets have “a number of games left and that’s how we look at it.” The truth is that the Jets are now 5-20 since Glenn became their head coach and there’s no sign of the kind of consistency and execution needed to build a sustained winner under his watch. Whether or not a loss to the 0-5 Dolphins becomes the point of no return for his tenure will be up to Jets owner Woody Johnson.
