The Los Angeles Dodgers revised their roster amid the MLB playoffs push. Including welcoming back Shohei Ohtani and Tarik Skubal ahead of their three-peat World Series attempt. But Josue De Paula received a demotion in Ohtani's and Skubal's elevation Wednesday.
De Paula will head down to Oklahoma City with the Triple-A affiliate Comets. The franchise announced that decision Wednesday evening including sending Kyle Hurt to OKC.
However, manager Dave Roberts cleared the air about De Paula's potential status for the upcoming postseason.
“This gives us an opportunity to potentially have him back for the postseason,” Roberts told reporters before the game. “He’s part of the conversation.”
Article Continues BelowDodgers insider for The Athletic Katie Woo also provided insight into the De Paula decision.
“By optioning De Paula on Wednesday, the Dodgers ensured he’d be eligible to be recalled by Oct. 3, the date of the first scheduled games of the National League Division Series,” Woo wrote. “De Paula would not be eligible for the Wild Card series. But that’s of little concern to the Dodgers. They can clinch a first-round bye with a win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, or with a loss by the Atlanta Braves to the Cincinnati Reds.”
So De Paula's season isn't over yet with the Boys in Blue. Los Angeles, again, is gunning for a third consecutive WS title. The New York Yankees represent the last MLB franchise to claim three championships in a row during the early 2000s. LA already owns three WS titles with Roberts as skipper.
