The Pittsburgh Steelers have the pieces to make a serious Super Bowl run in what will be Aaron Rodgers' final NFL season. They are one of the AFC's top teams, but that does not mean their roster is without weaknesses. Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns exposed another reason Pittsburgh should consider adding a wide receiver before the trade deadline.

The Steelers have a talented group when everyone is healthy. DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., rookie Germie Bernard, and Roman Wilson give Rodgers several options. However, Pittman and Wilson are currently on injured reserve, leaving Bernard with a larger role than originally expected. The rookie has shown flashes, but Pittsburgh could use another established playmaker.

The biggest concern is Metcalf.

Metcalf is an all-world talent with the physical tools to dominate opposing defenses. Unfortunately, his production has not consistently matched his ability this season. Sunday's game against Cleveland provided another frustrating example.

With Rodgers delivering a pass to a wide-open Metcalf, the receiver had an opportunity to make a big play. Instead, he failed to secure the catch, allowing the ball to bounce off his hands and into the arms of Browns cornerback Denzel Ward for an interception.

That cannot happen from a receiver expected to be the centerpiece of Pittsburgh's passing attack. The Steelers still won comfortably, 27-6, but the mistake was another reminder that Rodgers needs more dependable options when the offense has to make a play through the air.

Rodgers deserves some credit for his performance this season, too. At 42 years old, he has continued to deliver quality throws and give Pittsburgh opportunities to move the ball. The problem is that the receiving group has not consistently rewarded him.

The Steelers have leaned heavily on their running game, with Jaylen Warren carrying the offense. That approach has worked, but Pittsburgh cannot expect to rely on its backfield every week, especially against stronger postseason defenses.

Pittsburgh has trade options worth exploring

The Steelers should be aggressive in exploring the wide receiver market. They do not need to make a blockbuster move, but adding another reliable target could give Rodgers the support he needs for a championship run.

Josh Downs, Brian Thomas Jr., Jauan Jennings, and Dontayvion Wicks are names worth monitoring if their respective teams become willing to negotiate.

Any of those additions would give the Steelers more flexibility while Pittman and Wilson work toward returning. It would also take pressure off Bernard, letting the rookie keep developing without being asked to carry too much of the receiving workload.

Pittsburgh does not need to overhaul its offense. It needs another dependable receiver who can make the routine catches and take advantage of the opportunities Rodgers creates.

The bye week gives the Steelers time to make a move

Pittsburgh is entering its bye week at an important point in the season. The Steelers can use the extra time to evaluate their roster and determine whether a trade makes sense before the deadline.

Their schedule will become increasingly important after the break, beginning with a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on November 15. A game against the Philadelphia Eagles follows, before a potential showdown with the Denver Broncos. If Pittsburgh handles its business, it could be 8-2 heading into that Denver matchup.

The Steelers are in a position to make a serious run, and they should not waste an opportunity to improve. Metcalf's mistake against Cleveland should not define his season, but it does reinforce a concern that has followed Pittsburgh's passing game.

Rodgers needs more reliable help, and the Steelers have the draft capital and motivation to explore their options. Adding another receiver before the deadline could be the move that helps turn a strong contender into a legitimate Super Bowl threat.
