The Washington Huskies may not have quarterback Demond Williams Jr. in action for this Saturday's game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Husky Stadium in Seattle. The Washington football star signal-caller is apparently still nursing an upper-body issue.

“I’m not under the impression that I think he’ll be playing this week based upon where he’s at physically,” Washington head coach Jedd Fisch said on Monday, via Josh Kirshenbaum of the Associated Press.

”But I don’t want to predict the medical future; we still have four days before we’ll have to make that decision.”

Fisch also added that Williams did not practice on Monday.

“There would have to be a pretty significant change for anything to change,” added Fisch.

That's not an encouraging update on the status of Williams, who was unable to finish last Friday's game against the No. 20-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at home. Williams was knocked out of the game after absorbing a big hit in the second quarter. He went to the locker room for X-rays before getting ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Before he left the Iowa game, Williams went 6-of-11 for 69 passing yards with zero touchdowns. Elijah Brown took over the quarterbacking duties after Williams' exit, and he looked good despite the 41-24 loss to the Hawkeyes, passing for 251 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions on 28-of-39 pass completions.

After starting the 2026 season with three straight victories against non-conference opponents, Washington football has gone downhill. The Huskies are on a three-game losing skid, with all losses coming at the hands of Big Ten rivals.
