With the Seattle Seahawks coming off the disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears, 34-17, the defense has been focused by many as being the underwhelming unit from the contest. As the Seahawks especially failed in the red zone against the Bears, defensive star DeMarcus Lawrence would speak on the outlook of the unit ahead of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Lawrence was asked about the defense with the team now at a 4-4 record, coming right after winning the Super Bowl last season. Lawrence expressed that the defense is “right where we need to be in all honesty,” according to Greg Bell.
“I feel like us as a defense, we right where we need to be in all honesty,” Lawrence said. “It's just really the game of football, and what I see, I think us as a team, Coach McDonald, see it all the same, and it's just one play at a time, complementary football, and that's our style. So it's kind of hard to just sit up here and just focus on one unit when we are a collective.”
While Seattle has been a great defensive unit as a whole, the team ranks last in the league in red zone efficiency, per Brady Henderson of ESPN, culminating in allowing the Bears to score all four times their offense was inside the 20-yard line.
“The Seahawks' defense is allowing the fifth-fewest points in the NFL, but they're last in red zone efficiency after allowing the Bears to score touchdowns on all four of their trips inside the 20. When asked about that issue today, DeMarcus Lawrence put it on his shoulders,” Henderson wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
At any rate, Lawrence and the Seahawks look to improve Sunday against the Cardinals.
