After the Carolina Panthers cut wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., Colorado head coach Deion Sanders stepped in. In an interview Wednesday, Sanders said he made some calls on Horn's behalf.

“Before I let you go here, uh, our, our guy Jimmy Horn got cut,” The host told Sanders.

Sanders quickly replied, “ Yeah. I made some calls too…immediatley.”

He also spoke glowingly about Horn's character, citing an instance from when he was a member of the Buffaloes.

“I don't understand how it's…and I hate questioning…management…because I'm not there, but this kid is a great human being. The best thing I heard, the story about this kid, you know we get our kids car deals and all of that, right?  The dealer that I know that a lot of our kids get car deals for, it's only one guy who ever turned their car back in cleaned and a tank full of gas and that was Jimmy Horn.”

He added, “Says a lot about who he is. So it's no…You can't tell me nothing about what transpired with Jimmy. Okay, he dropped the punt. I get it. I understand. But if you was just wanting to get rid of him, it wasn't about character, I promise you that.”

Horn played for Sanders at Colorado in 2023 and 2024. In his career, he accumulated 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 91 receptions. The Panthers then drafted him in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 208th overall pick. Horn spent a season with the Panthers, finishing the 2025 season with 11 receptions for 108 yards.

The Panthers cut Horn after he muffed a punt in their 59-37 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
