After coming up short for the third game in a row against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves on the verge of watching their World Series defense end in the NLCS.
With their offense struggling, their pitching being pummeled by the Brewers' unique style of manufactured offense, and Pat Murphy thoroughly outmanaging Dave Roberts, LA fans are looking for any reason to believe the Dodgers will play again on Friday, let alone make it back to the World Series.
Discussing that very topic after Game 3, Roberts noted why he isn't ready to write his team off just yet, as, after being part of a 0-3 team that eventually won a best-of-7 series as a player, he knows what it takes to keep the dream alive.
“It's certainly possible. I've lived it. And I think the thing is that our guys have, you know, been battle-tested, as was that team I was a part of,” Roberts said. “And I think the mindset has to be, and teams have been down before 0-2, 0-3, it's just you just got to win tomorrow. And so it's an elimination game. We've played in a lot of elimination games, and we just got to get a win. And we've got to find a way to build some momentum, and it takes all of us.”
On paper, the Dodgers still have enough star power to win a game against any team if their roster is firing on all cylinders, but thus far in the NLCS, that just hasn't happened, with the team's offensive struggles from the regular season returning in October. For Roberts sake, hopefully LA really does have a plan ready to go for Game 4, as otherwise, it will be a long winter regardless of the impending lockout.
