After things were starting to look good regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal future, a new major update has now emerged. A few days ago, after spending 90 minutes on the bench against Norway, Ronaldo exited the pitch without meeting anyone. Later, he again skipped training, which raised speculation and required an emergency meeting.

However, shortly after the meeting, Ronaldo left the national camp before his team's two games against Denmark and Norway. Despite Ronaldo's absence on the field, Portugal won both games comfortably. Recently, after Portugal's win over Norway, manager Jorge Jesus shared his opinion on Ronaldo's return to the Portugal squad.

“If he wants to, he'll return to the national team. We can talk before the next call-up, but Cris [Cristiano Ronaldo] is the one who's going to decide. Cristiano should end his time in the national team the way he wants; he's the one who will decide how he wants it,” Jesus said among other things.

However, Rui Santos from CNN Portugal reported through World Soccer Talk that Ronaldo has decided against representing Portugal while Jesus is in charge as head coach. Jesus experienced an excellent start to his spell as Portugal's new manager with four straight wins. After a poor FIFA World Cup performance, Portugal secured Ronaldo's former Al-Nassr manager Jesus.

Ronaldo was in the starting lineup for the 1-0 win over Wales; however, he was named on the bench for the Norway match with no confirmation regarding his playing time. It was also the first occasion since 2008 that Ronaldo was an unused substitute for his nation in a competitive match. Chasing his 1000 goal milestone, Ronaldo currently has 146 goals for Portugal in 234 appearances.
