Joey Porter Jr. wasted little time making his presence felt in Dallas. Fresh off the Cowboys’ blockbuster trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the physical cornerback delivered his first public message to Cowboys Nation. He offered a glimpse of the swagger he plans to bring to a secondary in desperate need of reinforcements.

Porter took to Instagram and shared an image of himself with his hands raised while Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” played in the background.

His message was unmistakable: “Here I come… Dallas 💙.”

Porter followed it with a padlock emoji and a mock definition of a “seat belt,” describing it as “the opposing reciever is locked up.”

The message fits Porter’s aggressive personality and signals that he sees himself as much more than another body joining the Cowboys’ defense.

Dallas has endured a difficult start to the 2026 season, with injuries further complicating its secondary. Starting safeties Jalen Thompson and PJ Locke are on injured reserve. Cobie Durant has been dealing with a hamstring issue. Porter now joins DaRon Bland as Dallas looks to stabilize its perimeter coverage ahead of Week 4.

Selected 32nd overall by Pittsburgh in the 2023 NFL Draft, Porter developed into a full-time starter midway through his first season. He even earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors. His 34-inch arms and aggressive press technique have helped establish him as a physical boundary defender capable of challenging top receivers. However, his style has occasionally led to penalties. Still, Porter has embraced the confrontation that comes with playing outside. Now, his first message as a Cowboy suggests he intends to bring that same mentality to Dallas.
