George Pickens did not spend much time dwelling on the worst night of his Cowboys tenure. Speaking to reporters at The Star on Wednesday, the All-Pro receiver addressed the two drops that helped sink Dallas in its 28-20 loss to the Giants and kept the answer brief.

“It's football. You're gonna have some here, you're gonna have some there,” Pickens said on Wednesday. “But you definitely want to limit those just to make the big plays, because I know that's what I'm capable of.”

The numbers were ugly. Pickens caught three of six targets for 28 yards across 49 of 58 offensive snaps, an anemic 4.6 yards per target for a receiver coming off a career year. Both drops were highly catchable and both cost Dallas real estate.

The first came late in the first quarter on a deep in-breaking route where Pickens was wide open and the ball hit him cleanly. The second, with 1:25 left in the first half and the game tied 7-7, was a Dak Prescott throw down the right sideline that traveled more than 30 yards and landed between the numbers. Prescott threw an interception four plays later, and the Giants drove 55 yards in 29 seconds for the lead.

Nobody inside the building appears worried. “I don't say anything to George. George will be just fine,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday, adding that he expects Pickens to catch a ball down the sideline and take it the rest of the way. Prescott struck a similar tone, calling the drops uncharacteristic and saying he has no intention of shying away from Pickens or CeeDee Lamb.

The resume supports that confidence. Pickens racked up 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season, career bests in both categories, along with a career-high catch percentage. He also had a forgettable Cowboys debut in last year's opener against the Eagles, posting a 4-30 line before scoring in each of his next five games.

Pickens said the urgency is real with another division opponent coming in. Dallas hosts Washington on Sunday at AT&T Stadium, looking to avoid an 0-2 start in the NFC East.
