The Dallas Cowboys suffered a terrible fourth-quarter collapse against the Arizona Cardinals. Leading 24-10, the Cowboys allowed the Cards to come back and get the 33-30 win in overtime.

The Cowboys notably did not have either of their star receivers, CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens, on the field at times late in the game. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer shared the reason for that curious decision.

“There's certain personnel packages that they don't play in, and there's a reason for that. One of those was the touchdown to [Ryan Flournoy] early. Those guys are involved in a lot of different things, and that's why,” Schottenheimer explained, per Tommy Yarrish on X, formerly Twitter.

Lamb finished with the game with seven catches for 58 yards, both team-highs. Meanwhile, Pickens had two receptions for 48 yards as Dak Prescott was limited to 195 yards, his second-lowest total of the season.

The Cowboys have dropped to 3-5 on the season after the defeat to the Cardinals as the dysfunction within the organization continues. The pressure is once again mounting on Schottenheimer as he is on pace for a second straight sub-.500 season.

If the Cowboys had just hung on for the win, the Lamb-Pickens absence likely would not have been such a big deal. But because of their collapse, the Cowboys coach is being heavily scrutinized for every decision he makes.

The fact of the matter is that with their status and their resources, the Cowboys need results. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't ready to fire anybody now, but if Schottenheimer is unable to provide the wins soon, it may not be long before he is out of a job.
