The NBA has closed their investigation into the LA Clippers and Kawhi Leonard regarding cap circumvention, and punishments have been handed down. The next league investigation that has been underway and also deals with potential salary cap circumvention is with the Milwaukee Bucks and Gary Trent Jr.

At the basis of the NBA’s investigation into Gary Trent Jr. is the contract he signed this offseason with the Bucks for four years and worth around $64 million. Prior to signing that deal, Trent had been on a minimum contract with the team. And if there is anything illegal found by the league, the punishment could worse that what was given to the Clippers and Leonard, as per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in that investigation. I will tell you that it is a frequent conversation as I talk with people around the league … it is being done by a different law firm than the Clippers investigation,” Windhorst reported during a recent episode of ‘The Hoop Collective.’ “I want to be clear, I want to be cautious, but I had an executive say to me that if this is proven to be true, then this is actually more egregious than the Clippers deal.”

Windhorst explained what the executive meant regarding it being worse than the Clippers in that the Clippers did not get any salary cap relief, it was just to get their star player more money. Regarding the Trent situation, the Bucks potentially could have gotten a favorable cap situation in terms of trying to build a roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
