The Washington Commanders will travel for a Monday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers to cap off Week 6. Washington is 1-3-1, and they’re coming off one of the biggest overtime blunders in recent memory. San Francisco is one of three undefeated teams left, entering this game at 5-0.

The 49ers have been the best team in the NFL through five weeks. They lead the league with a +12.2 average scoring margin per game. They also rank second in points per play (0.542) and third in opponents' points per play (0.292) in 2026.

The Commanders haven’t performed well this season, but I don’t trust most of their offensive metrics because of the injury to Jayden Daniels. The bigger concern for them is that they rank 30th in the NFL in opponents’ points per play (0.464) this season.

Washington’s offense will be in a tough spot this week as well. Daniels returned against the New York Giants, but Jacory Croskey-Merritt has been ruled out at running back. That leaves Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler to take over duties, and it’s unlikely either is going to be an efficient runner in 2026.

San Francisco will be without a couple of key defenders, with Nick Bosa still injured. Dre Greenlaw is also suspended, which is a major hit to their linebacker group. Still, this is a high-end defense with plenty of other options to take over the game.

The 49ers have only faced one quarterback with elite mobility this season, holding Malik Willis to six rushing yards on only two carries. Daniels and Willis aren’t on the same level, but this is a game plan that San Francisco can use to help contain one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL.

Even if Washington’s offense takes a step forward, it’s unlikely their defense is going to be able to slow down San Francisco. This is a spot where the 49ers will score plenty of points, but they can also limit the Commanders’ offense.

I went with the alt spread to get this below a touchdown as a key number. I’d likely use this more as a short parlay piece rather than a straight bet at the current odds.
