Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu might not play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 due to a groin injury.

He sustained it in the third quarter of their tough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-22, at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. He played 29 snaps, making four tackles and one sack before leaving the field.

His exit left a huge hole on the defense. The Commanders went on a surge in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to pull the rug from under the Eagles.

While Luvu could be sidelined in Week 2, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said the 29-year-old enforcer could return to action soon.

“Commanders LB Frankie Luvu suffered a minor groin strain Sunday against Philadelphia, per sources. His status for this week remains uncertain, but this shouldn't be a long-term issue and he's expected to avoid IR,” wrote Fowler on X.

Luvu has not missed a game since 2022.

The one-time All-Pro was instrumental in the pass coverage on Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. He was sacked three times, including one by Luvu in the first quarter, resulting in a nine-yard loss.

Hurts, however, remained unfazed, especially in crunch time, and helped the Eagles fend off the Commanders.

Washington coach Dan Quinn admitted that they shot themselves in the foot.

“The miscues I thought hurt us in this game, and those were the margins right there, division games or otherwise,” said Quinn in a report from the Associated Press.

The Commanders will return to practice on Wednesday, and more information is expected to be given regarding Luvu's status for Week 2.
