Washington could be without a key player in Terry McLaurin for a while. The Commanders wideout was carted off the field in their 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.

In his post-game press conference, Commanders coach Dan Quinn said he didn't exactly know the severity of McLaurin's injury, but there isn't a lot of optimism at the moment.

“The concern is that it could be significant. We'll do the scans tomorrow and give you an update when I visit with you guys,” Quinn said.

Losing McLaurin to a major knee injury would be a major blow to the Commanders. McLaurin came into the 49ers game as the team's leading receiver, with 14 catches and 203 yards in four games this season. However, those numbers are a far cry from the consistent production he had in his first six years in the league, where he was a consistent 1,000-yard receiver.

If McLaurin does miss significant time, Stefon Diggs will step in to the No. 1 receiver role. Diggs, who missed time with a hamstring injury, also had another injury concern against San Francisco as his right hand got hit by a helmet. However, he continued to play and even scored his fourth touchdown of the season.

With McLaurin out, the Commanders found two surprise contributors in Chig Okonkwo and Treylon Burks, who combined for 11 receptions for 135 yards against the Niners. The Commanders will have a bye week coming up, so they will have time to prepare for the possibility of life without McLaurin ahead of their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 1.
