The San Francisco 49ers suffered a brutal blow in Week 6 against the Washington Commanders. Despite getting the win in prime time, San Francisco fans were restless after Mike Evans exited the game with an injury. Given the state of the current wide receiver room, losing yet another wide receiver to an injury was the last thing this team needed in their quest to win the Super Bowl.

Thankfully, the 49ers got a positive update about their star wide receiver after the game. Kyle Shanahan said that the Achilles injury he suffered was already bothering him before the game. A flare-up of that injury led to his early exit against the Commanders.

“Kyle doesn't believe more testing is required, that Evans has dealt with this in his career, was touch-and-go whether he'd play after not practicing last week,” Cam Inman reported on X.

The 49ers already have nearly their entire wide receiver room out with an injury. They already lost Ricky Pearsall earlier in the year due to complications in his injured knee. Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling suffered a serious ankle injury in Week 1 that ruled him out for the season. Christian Kirk suffered an injury in training camp, while Demarcus Robinson also injured his ankle in Week 2 of the season.

Does this update mean that Evans will be available for Week 7? It's not conclusive yet, but the good news for the 49ers is that he likely won't miss extended time. Losing Evans would mean that San Francisco will rely on Brandin Cooks, Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins, and a potential return from Deebo Samuel Sr.

The 49ers are also set to get some reinforcements in Week 7. Shanahan also said in his post-game interview that Kirk is likely to play in Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons. San Francisco also still has two of the best offensive weapons in the league in tight end George Kittle and running back Christian McCaffrey.
